North Salem is located in the northeastern part of Westchester County, about 50 mi or 80 km north of Manhattan. The town also has more than one art gallery in its small commercial areas, and North Salem Advocates for the Arts holds periodic festivals.

Open fields and rugged hills surround the Titicus Reservoir.
